No need to add sachets, bleach, lemonade, [insert old wive's tale here!] or other weird and wonderful stuff to your vase. For cut flowers, simply trim stems diagonally about 2cm from the base and change the water every couple of days, re-trimming stems each time. Take care to remove all leaves that will be underwater, as they contain bacteria that may quickly spoil the water.

To prolong and maintain your floral display, carefully remove spent blooms, as some flowers will have a shorter lifespan.

Position flowers so that they receive natural light, while making sure they are away from direct sunlight or draughts. Do not place them on or near heat generating appliances.

A good quality terrarium will consist of layers of gravel (provides drainage), horticultural charcoal (removes toxins and odours), moss (to retain moisture) and finally a premium potting mix suited to the types of plants featured.

Position the terrarium so that it receives plenty of natural light. Do not place them on or near heat generating appliances.

The terrarium should not be over watered. Simply mist the plants using a spray bottle whenever the soil feels dry to touch. During warmer months it may be necessary to give a cup of water every week or two in order to prevent drying out.

Over time, your plants will grow and change in size and shape, depending on environmental conditions. A pair of tweezers can be a useful tool for removing leaves and carrying out plant maintenance.
